Indian Hangings Enrich Mapperton Cafe

Six Indian wall hangings are now enriching the scene in Mapperton’s Coach House Café. Designed by Zehra Tyabji, who lives in Pune, Maharashtra, they were embroidered by local Indian artists with a range of coloured jungle birds and animals.

Previously commissioned for use as a screen for weddings, they complemented a series of ceiling decorations, also designed by Zehra as a shamianaor Indian wedding tent.

Zehra has worked with women’s groups, textile designers and copper smiths. She created the champaor frangipani tree, made of copper, that can now be seen nearby in All Saints Church.

The Coach House Café is open Sunday – Thursday and serves a delicious selection of light meals, burgers, gourmet sandwiches (developed with the Earl of Sandwich himself!) and cakes with a fine selection of teas, soft drinks and outstanding coffee. Brunch is also available from 10am, and Sunday Lunches are available.
