Weddings, Marketing and Events Manager

Job Description

Mapperton Estate ( is a mixed activity estate in West Dorset, comprising a historic house & gardens, farms, residential property and woodlands. We have recently converted a seventeenth century building into a wedding venue which is proving very popular with couples (

We are looking for an energetic, outgoing and experienced Weddings, Marketing & Events Manager to join our friendly, hard-working team. You will oversee the marketing of our wedding venue, host show rounds for couples, manage the booking process as well as preparing for and running the venue on each wedding day. You will also oversee the marketing for visitors to the house & gardens, as well as co-ordinate various annual events (e.g. plant and food fairs, Easter and Halloween events).

A high level of enthusiasm for weddings, historic houses & gardens and rural communities is essential.

Please note that the primary role is weddings management, and other responsibilities may be delegated as the business grows.

The role is 5 days / 40 hours per week including Saturdays and Fridays during the season. 4 days / 32 hours may also be possible (with reduction in responsibilities and pro rata pay).


Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Developing with owner an annual marketing plan and budget
  • Overseeing all wedding marketing, including website, advertising, listings, social media & blogs
  • Responding to enquiries and hosting show rounds for couples
  • Supporting couples through the booking process and in advance of their wedding day
  • Overseeing the operations of the wedding, including liaising with caterers and other suppliers, organising furniture and marquees (when needed)
  • Attending wedding days as venue manager, including venue preparation, help with furniture moving and generally helping out
  • Overseeing wedding and event health & safety including risk assessments (first aid training provided)
  • Overseeing the house & gardens visitor marketing, including website, social media, advertising, listings and writing press releases
  • Marketing and co-ordinating all events at Mapperton, often working with outside partners, including writing event plans
  • Gathering and reporting monthly performance data

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Graduate preferred
  • At least three years’ experience working in similar weddings role
  • At least six years’ relevant work experience
  • Marketing & sales training and experience important
  • Excellent client-facing skills and confidence
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for social media, especially Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest
  • Good writing skills useful for website posts, press releases and social media
  • High level of technical literacy, including MS Office, WordPress, other internet platforms and online media
  • Experience of reporting on and reviewing key performance indicators to support decision-making
  • Photography skills would be distinct advantage
  • First aid training useful


  • £25k-£30k per annum, depending on experience
  • 28 days holiday including Bank Holidays
  • Full-time / 40 hours per week
  • Most Fridays and Saturdays during season

Café and Venue Manager

Job Description

We have recently converted a seventeenth century building into a café (called The Coach House, commercial kitchen and events space which is proving very popular with visitors and wedding couples (

We are looking for an outgoing, hard-working and experienced manager to join our friendly team for an initial one year contract. In this role, you will run The Coach House café, including management of all staff and overseeing the operations of the bar & venue for events and weddings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with owner on an annual budget and plan
  • Managing the cafe day-to-day during the season
  • Recruiting, training and managing staff
  • Working closely with our head chef to develop menus
  • Sourcing from local suppliers where possible
  • Working closely with other Mapperton staff for bookings of coach parties and other groups
  • Working with weddings/events team and external caterers to ensure smooth running of all events
  • Overseeing bar during weddings and events
  • Supporting the marketing of the café and venue, including use of social media channels
  • Ensuring positive customer experience and feedback
  • Stock taking and stock buying
  • Monthly financial review with owner
  • Planning staff rota
  • Ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness
  • Managing processes, controls and paperwork to meet 5 star EHO standards
  • Overseeing cleaning, operations and security of whole venue
  • Overseeing health & safety, fire safety and risk assessments

You will:

  • Have over three years’ experience managing a cafe, food outlet, deli or coffee shop
  • Be passionate about producing creative high quality food that exceeds visitor expectations
  • Be outgoing, cheerful and friendly even during busy periods
  • Be creative, with ideas for improving our food, service and processes, as well as special events
  • Be able to control costs, manage purchases and ensure profitability
  • Have good computer and financial skills
  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Be a great manager and motivator
  • Ideally, have some experience in marketing and social media


  • Initial one year contract from December 2019
  • Circa £25k per annum, depending on experience
  • Full-time / 40 hours per week
