Disabled Access

June 2020 – We are very sorry but Mapperton Gardens will be unable to accommodate wheelchairs at this time.  This is because the one way system requires the use of steep paths and steps, and it is not possible to create a safe wheelchair route given the need for social distancing.  We will however continue to consider alternatives.

The paths in the Gardens are gravel and some areas are very steep due to the natural topography. Approximately 50% of the garden is considered to be accessible by wheelchair and there is a recommended wheelchair route.

The café, the ground floor of House and the shop are all accessible to wheelchairs. However the House is not accessible in an electric wheelchair.

One manual wheelchair is available free of charge at the main entrance. We do not book chairs out in advance of a visit.

Designated disabled parking is available in the first row of the main car park, which is 50 metres from the entrance to the House and Gardens.

Free admission for carers
Those who are able to show documentary identification of disability (i.e. blue / orange badge or similar) will be able to take a carer in free of charge.

A lavatory with wheelchair access is located to the right of the Coach House.

Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas.
