Volunteering at Mapperton

Join Mapperton as a volunteer!

Mapperton has an extraordinary and highly valued team of volunteers who help with a variety of activities in the House, Gardens and wider estate.

Our volunteers are vital to the success of Mapperton and we would not be able to provide such a high quality visitor experience without them.  In addition, we rely on our volunteers to help deliver key projects, including our nature recovery work on Mapperton Wildlands.

Volunteers receive free annual membership to the Gardens, free access to selected events, a discount in the café as well as a contribution to travel costs.  There is also an annual volunteers’ lunch and tea.  Volunteering at Mapperton is a wonderful opportunity to engage with heritage and nature, while making new friends and learning new skills. Volunteers need to be able to commit for at least three hours per week.

There are several possible roles for volunteers here at Mapperton:

Volunteer House Guides

Our House Guides deliver highly engaging tours of Mapperton House to our visitors.  You can either lead a tour or help as a ‘shepherd’.  Perfect for history lovers and those who enjoy interacting with small groups.

Volunteer Reception Assistants

Our Volunteer Reception Assistants are the first point of contact with our visitors, and are responsible for giving everyone a warm welcome to Mapperton.  You will also help with ticket and shop sales, and answer any general visitor queries.

Volunteer Gardeners

As one of our Volunteer Gardeners, you will help to with a range of activities in one of England’s greatest gardens, from deadheading to weeding, pruning and  much more.

Social Wilding Volunteers

Social Wilding is our year-round volunteering programme for Mapperton Wildlands.  It gives volunteers the opportunity to meet regularly and help with a variety of nature recovery projects, including tree planting, habitat surveying, ride clearing as well as numerous other important tasks.
